Child Culture Design is a masters program in design with a special focus on children and children's culture. It is a unique program where an interdisciplinary learning connects practical and theoretical knowledge, for, with and by children. Through individual projects and external collaborations, the program examine design as a subject in a contemporary context, and from the children’s perspective. The program is very much internationally. Students come from many different cultures and with different skills, contributing to a broad view of design and children’s culture. They are privileged to work with an education that really makes a difference and that, moreover, is attracting much attention in a growing field. Sweden has a long history and extensive knowledge of working with children, and that we want to continue with.

One part of the exhibition is the “Archive for Public Play” an interactive installation produced by doctoral student Annelies Vaneycken. This installation invites you to contribute to the archive by memorizing and narrating your favorite free play activities as child or from when you were a child. The Archive for Public Play aims to generate knowledge on ‘free play’. The contributions, in turn, will serve to reactivate public space trough re-enacting free play in the city. This work is part of the Office for Public Play, a research platform exploring what influence free play can have on the culture, shape and functioning of the city and its public spaces (www.officeforpublicplay.org) and the TRADERS research project (http://tr-aders.eu/).

The exhibition is presented simultaneously as the “Growing with design” – conference (www.growingwithdesign.se), hosted by HDK.
